Who We Are

You may have called us Nuns or Sisters. We are Catholic women religious who have answered God’s call to spend the rest of our lives serving Jesus Christ by caring for those in need, especially the poor and abandoned. Many years ago we were easy to recognize dressed in our long habits. You may have seen us in Catholic schools or hospitals.

Today we continue to carry out our mission of service to others, but many of us now wear contemporary clothes. Our ministries have also changed to meet the evolving needs of society, so we are still among you. With the same dedication, commitment and tenacity of the Sisters who went before us, we bring our gifts as teachers, doctors, administrators, social advocates, lawyers, nurses, counselors, and many other ministries in our service to God.

This website is sponsored by Congregations of Catholic women religious based in Texas to show the active apostolic lives of Sisters, often referred to as Nuns, in today's world.

Sponsoring Congregations: Sisters of Divine Providence; Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston; Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament; and Dominican Sisters of Houston.
